While purchasing a digital piano brand new is ideal, sometimes you can find a great deal on a used instrument through platforms like Facebook Marketplace. However, it’s important to proceed with caution, as not all listings are created equal. Here are a few tips to help you make a safe and informed decision:

1. Ask About the Piano’s History

Before committing to a purchase, always ask the seller about the instrument’s history. How old is it? Has it been well cared for? Where was it stored? These details can help you determine if the piano will be reliable in the long term.

2. Check for 88 Weighted Keys

It’s crucial that any piano you consider has 88 fully weighted keys. Some models, especially cheaper or older ones, might have fewer keys or lack the weighted action that’s so important for developing proper technique.

3. Research the Brand and Model

Before finalizing a deal, make sure to research the brand and model of the piano. Look up reviews and specifications to ensure it’s a quality instrument. As I mentioned earlier, brands like Yamaha, Casio, and Kawai are safe bets, while Alesis and Donner might not give you the best experience.

Having a second set of eyes is invaluable, especially when you're buying used.
